Adds a second, user-selectable pattern engine next to doublestar for the retention and immutability selector surfaces (phase 1 of goharbor/community#298). - new selector kind "regexp" in src/lib/selector/selectors/regexp, registered with the same decorations and untagged semantics as doublestar; patterns are anchored as \A(?:p)\z so they carry the same full string meaning as doublestar.Match, an empty pattern matches everything and a pattern is capped at 512 characters - write time validation: an unregistered kind, an unsupported decoration or a pattern that does not compile is rejected with 400 when the policy is saved, for retention via ValidateRetentionPolicy and for immutability via the controller, which validated nothing before - the dead beego Match(doublestar) tags on the two selector models accept both kinds now - GET /retentions/metadatas advertises the new kind additively - portal: an engine selector per pattern field in both add rule forms, driven by the metadata entries, and the doublestar specific brace wrapping of comma lists is skipped for regexp so quantifiers such as {2,3} survive Doublestar stays the default; existing rules are unchanged. Priority: ➖ Normal Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to When switching between the doublestar and regex pattern engines in the retention or immutable-tag rule editors, the existing pattern text is kept as-is rather than being cleared or re-checked for the new engine. A pattern that matched one way under regex can silently match differently under doublestar (or vice versa) after switching kinds, since only regex syntax is validated server-side. This is a minor usability/correctness gap — the rule still saves and functions, but administrators should double-check the pattern text after changing the selector kind until this is addressed. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 4 | ❌ 1❌ Failed checks (1 warning)

Pull request overview
Adds a new regexp selector kind (RE2 via Go stdlib) as an alternative to doublestar for tag retention and tag immutability, including backend validation and Portal UI support driven by the retention metadata endpoint.
Changes:
- Introduces a new regexp selector implementation and registers it alongside doublestar in the selector index, including validation helpers.
- Adds write-time selector validation for retention policies and immutable tag rules, plus a retention metadata contract test and metadata payload update.
- Updates Portal add-rule dialogs (retention + immutability) to support selecting a pattern engine per field, with i18n updates across locales and added unit tests.

A pattern such as `foo)|(?:bar` does not compile on its own but does once wrapped as `\A(?:...)\z`, where it becomes an alternation of `\A(?:foo)` and `(?:bar)\z` and matches on a prefix or a suffix instead of the full string. Compile the raw pattern first so it is rejected at write time. Found by CodeRabbit on #752. Signed-off-by: Vadim Bauer <vb@container-registry.com>

Intentional, and it applies to eight of the ten locale files, not just pt-br. The new keys are added in English everywhere except de-de, which got proper German. Harbor has no translation pipeline in this repo, so the alternative is machine-translating strings into languages I cannot review — for REGEX_TAG_SEPARATOR that means shipping unreviewed instructions about regular-expression syntax to users. An English string renders correctly and is obviously untranslated, so a native speaker can fix it in a follow-up; a wrong translation looks authoritative and nobody catches it.
This matches the existing state of these files, which already carry English fallbacks for untranslated keys — bun run i18n:check reports 23 pre-existing gaps in ru-ru alone on main, unchanged by this PR.

Not changing this — it is deliberate. Auto-converting a pattern between engines was one of the alternatives weighed and explicitly rejected in the proposal (goharbor/community#298 §2): a translator has to be 100% faithful or an upgrade silently changes what a rule matches, which is the worst possible failure mode for rules that delete images. Clearing the field on switch was also considered and rejected — it destroys what the user typed on a mis-click.
What makes this safe rather than silent: the pattern stays visible in the input, so the user sees {v1,v2} or ** sitting there in the wrong syntax, and the server rejects an invalid regex at save time with a 400 (ValidateRetentionPolicy / the immutability controller both compile the pattern now). So the failure is loud and happens before anything is stored. ** in particular is a valid RE2 error, not a silently-different match.

Not changing this — the empty-pattern guard is intentional. The form has always required a non-empty pattern for doublestar, and hasPattern keeps that contract for both engines rather than making regex the one kind where an empty field is submittable.
The engine does define an empty pattern as match-everything, and the API accepts it, but a match-everything selector on a rule that deletes or freezes images should be typed deliberately as .*, not arrive as an accidentally-blank field. Note the guard is already regex-aware in the direction that matters: for doublestar it strips braces before the emptiness check, so {} is correctly rejected, while for regex it does not, so a real quantifier-only pattern like {2} is accepted.

Not reachable, so not changing it. The metadata payload is deliberately NOT wired to Index() — rentenitionMetadataPayload in src/server/v2.0/handler/retention.go is a hardcoded literal with doublestar first, and TestRetentionMetadataSelectors pins that ordering so it cannot regress. Rewiring the payload to the registry was proposed upstream and rejected for this PR (the reasoning is in the PR body under "Deliberate deviations"), partly for exactly the nondeterminism you are pointing at, and partly because IndexedMeta has no display_text.
Index() itself currently has no non-test caller, so the sync.Map iteration order is not observable by any client today. If it ever does get wired up, deterministic ordering has to be solved there — agreed on the principle, just not a live defect on this PR.

Harmonizes the discriminator with community#280 (proxy cache repository filter) and with the 0007-multi-format-artifacts branch, both of which use "regex". Shipping "regexp" here would leave two user-visible literals for one concept. The proposal text has been updated to match. Only the string literal changes: the package stays src/lib/selector/selectors/regexp and the display label stays "RegEx". The i18n keys and the portal constant follow the literal (ENGINE_REGEX, REGEX_REP_SEPARATOR, REGEX_TAG_SEPARATOR, SELECTOR_KIND_REGEX), and the compile error prose now reads "invalid regex pattern" so the API error and the kind agree. populateImmutableStatus swallowed both of its errors and left Tag.Immutable false. Every consumer of that flag reads false as permission to write: the push middleware (server/middleware/immutable/pushmf.go) allows the overwrite, and Ensure and Delete in this controller skip their precondition check. An immutability rule whose selector cannot be built therefore made a supposedly immutable tag silently re-pushable. Retention, by contrast, already fails closed and loudly. This is reachable in practice with the regex kind added by this branch: a rule saved as kind "regex" on a newer core and read back after a rollback produces "selector regex is not registered" from Matcher.Match, which is exactly the swallowed error. Report the tag as immutable when the status cannot be determined, and log the cause. Integrity over availability: a rule that cannot be evaluated blocks the write with a clear 412 rather than quietly permitting it. Propagating the error to the callers was the other candidate and was rejected on the call graph. handlePush treats any error from GetByReference as "no existing artifact" and returns nil, so a propagated error would still be swallowed there and the push would still be allowed; closing that would mean also rejecting pushes on any transient error in the same call, a far larger blast radius. And propagation would fail artifact listing outright whenever one rule in a project is broken, since assembleTag feeds List and Get. Setting the flag closes all three enforcement points without touching their error handling. The artifact lookup above the match is treated the same way, being the same "status unknown" condition. Accepted trade-off, keeping it. The log volume concern is real in principle, but this path only fires in a state that is now hard to reach: a rule whose selector cannot be built. The API rejects those at write time as of this PR (unregistered kind, unsupported decoration, or a pattern that does not compile all return 400), so in practice it requires a rule written directly into the database or read back after a core downgrade.
In that state, loudness is the point. This is the fail-closed path — every tag in the project is being reported immutable and writes are being refused, and an operator needs a clear reason in the log rather than silent refusals. Deduplicating would mean carrying per-project rate-limit state through a function that is called per tag during assembly, which is more machinery and more shared state than the pathological case justifies.
… nullable Two findings from the bot review on #752. add() stripped every whitespace character from both patterns before saving. That is right for doublestar, where whitespace carries no meaning and the strip forgives a pasted list like "a, b", but a space is a literal character in a regex: inside a character class or an alternation it is part of the expression. "[a-z ]+" was silently stored as "[a-z]+", a different expression. Normalization is now skipped for the regex kind, so the pattern is stored exactly as typed and the server validates it. Doublestar behavior is unchanged. repoSelector and tagSelector were declared to return Selector but return null when the rule has no selectors yet; the return type now says Selector | null, along with the hasPattern parameter that consumes them. Both accessors were already null-guarded at every call site, so this only makes the types honest. Signed-off-by: Vadim Bauer <vb@container-registry.com>

Phase 1 of Support RegEx as an Alternative to Doublestar: the shared regex engine plus the two surfaces that need no migration — tag retention and tag immutability. PR 1 of a stack; phase 2 (replication, #753) and phase 3 (P2P preheat, #754) follow.
What's in here
regex(src/lib/selector/selectors/regexp): Go stdlib RE2, full-string matching (same semantics as doublestar), 512-character cap, compile-once with an anchoring-escape guard, same six decorations anduntaggedhandling as doublestar.GET /retentions/metadatasadvertises the new kind; both add-rule dialogs get an engine selector (default Doublestar) with kind-aware input handling; i18n in all 10 locales.populateImmutableStatusswallowed matcher errors, leaving supposedly immutable tags silently re-pushable whenever a rule could not be evaluated (e.g. after a core rollback). A tag whose immutable status cannot be determined is now reported immutable, with the cause logged.Notes
regex, harmonized with community#280 andlib/pattern.selector.Factory(write-time validation makes runtime compile errors unreachable), and the metadata payload extended additively rather than rewired toindex.Index()(keeps the existing response byte-identical).regexrule on an older core fails loudly, never silently misinterprets.Testing
Unit coverage for the engine (anchoring incl. the

Tag retention and tag immutability rules can now use regular expressions: choose RegEx next to any pattern field (Doublestar remains the default) to express rules like "keep exactly
v<major>.<minor>.<patch>" that globs cannot. Patterns are validated when the rule is saved, and an immutability rule that cannot be evaluated now blocks tag overwrites instead of silently allowing them.
